“The Broken Glass Classic”

A nod to the classic barefoot lap endurance contest, the Twin Lakes Barefoot Laps Challenge is a test to see who can barefoot the longest around Lake Mary. The twist: after the second full lap, the boat will decrease speed by 2 mph and continue to decrease speed by 2 mph on every lap until the skier falls.

Rules

  • Competitors are pulled in a counter-clockwise direction and can choose their starting speed, up to 42 mph. After the second full lap, the boat will decrease speed by 2 mph and continue to decrease speed by 2 mph on every lap until the skier falls. The top two longest runs of the day will go into a head-to-head final showdown. In finals, boat will not decrease speed; skiers can choose speed, up to 42 mph.

  • All barefooters must either be on their feet or off their device and on their bare feet within the 60-foot, 2-buoy marked zone – a.k.a. the Step Off Zone. If a competitor stands or reaches their feet after the Step Off Zone, then a 20-second penalty will apply. Barefooters can perform deepwater starts, but apparatus starts like step offs, 2-ski bomb outs and other creative start variations are encouraged.

  • Barefooters must stay on their feet at all times -- no butt checks, butt riding or deep 3 point position. This will be monitored and ruled upon by the boat judge.

  • Athletes must compete on their bare feet — no duct tape or any material affixed to feet will be allowed. Clincher-style gloves are also not allowed to be worn during the competition. The boat judge will monitor and make a call as they see fit.

  • All athletes must wear some form of floatation during their run. Unlike traditional Feet on Fire rules, barefoot suits are allowed. Vests and jump suits are also acceptable forms of floatation.
